Current Definition

In design processes, artifacts are created. Artifacts provide externalization of our thoughts and they "talk back" to the designer and to others. They can be shared among groups of people and they are essential components of distributed cognition. DODEs are computational environments supporting the construction, assessment and evolution of artifacts.
