Externalization

Current Definition
To make ideas explicit by representing them in some external form, such as sketches, specifications, models, etc. The product of externalization is an artifact, or "oeuvre." Externalizing is a crucial process in design because it allows the designer to notice unanticipated aspects of the artifact. Externalization is crucial in collaborative design to help stakeholders to learn from each other and to create a shared understanding.
