ZPD

Current Definition
Zone of Proximinal Development - The theoretical construct of Vygotsky which states that learning occurs best when an expert guides a novice from the novice's current level of knowledge to the expert's level of knowledge (or a closer approximation thereof). The "distance" between the learner's current knowledge and the expert's is the "zone." "Proximal" refers to the learner's approximations of the expert's knowledge. "Development" refers to the idea that learners move towards the expert's level.
