CommunitySpace |
The Community Space The Community Space displays a list of "community members" for each forum and some contact information (email, home page link, telephone number) for each member. The information in the Community Space is
- editable by you (you design your own Persona), and
- integrated with the DynaClass forum.
Your Persona
Personas in the Community Space are your presence within DynaSites - a means for you to share information about yourself so that others in the community can get to know you (what your interests are, what areas of expertise you contribute to the community, and anything else you choose to share). And of course, the Community space provides you a chance to learn about others through their personas. As a default, your persona object has been created with just a few items of contact information. Onced logged on, you can edit your persona (via an "Edit Persona" link that will appear beside your UserName in the command bar near the top of each page). When you click on this link, a window will open with a bunch of fields. You decide which fields to fill - fields with no information are not displayed. For example, if you don't want people to call you, don't list a tellphone number. The text box labeled "Freeform" at the bottom of the form is intended to allow you to say anything you want to. You can use HTML or just plain text.
Remember - you can change your persona at anytime! You can look at my Persona (username = jonathan) to get an idea of what one might look like.
Integration with the DynaClass Forum
The Community Space (and Personas) are connected with DynaClass forums in several ways:
- There is a link to the community page at the top left of every forum page. The community page opens in a different window than the forum, so when you are done with the Community Space, you can either select the other window, or close the Community Space window, to resume in the discussion forum.
- User names (e.g., the Authors of forum entries) are displayed as persona links. So when you read an entry in the discussion forum, you can click on the author's name and see his or her persona.
- To create links to a person: surround a username with asterisks (e.g., *jonathan*), then the username (as well as the asterisks) will be replaced by a link to that user's persona. This feature works in both the Persona Pages and in the discussion forum entries. Again, don't be afraid to try this out - you can always re-edit your entry.
