The Dynasites Virtual Library Prototype
The Virtual Library Project is a collaborative effort between New Vista High School and L3D.
The Virtual Library is an evolving demonstration of concept. Please visit the Virtual Library discussion thread to see what's next. And feel free to contribute your two-cents worth if you have an idea!.
The DynaSites VirtualLibrary Prototype supports users (Instructors and Students) to collect, structure, and share references to sites on the World Wide Web.
The Stacks
The Virtual Library's collection of references is called the Stacks, and individual references are called StackItems. Stackitems are created by Teachers. Once in the stacks, these stackitems are available to all users of the Virutual Library.
Stackitems consist of a URL (a web address), a title, keywords, and an annotation. The Stacks can be Searched using a simple searching mechanism that let's you find items by keyword and title.
Personal WorkSpace
Registered users of the Virtual Library have a Personal Workspace. Within the Workspace you can
collecte items and annotate them, and
keep notes (as well as delete them).Community WorkSpace
Unregistered users of the Virtual Library have access to a Community Workspace, which is a shared page for collaboratively collectings stack items and communicating by writing simple notes.
Check out The Community Workspace
Reserves
Within their Carrel, SuperUsers can create and manage Reserves, which are collections of links. An Instructor, for example, might create a reserve for American Lit to collect Links to important American authors. Once created, reserves are available to all users on the Reserve Desk Page.
Getting Started
You can use the Virtual Library as a guest, but you really should register. Registered users get their own carrel, and will have access to other individualized functionality as it is implemented. Registered users login when they enter the system. If you are not registered, you can register at the login page. When you register, you choose a password that is then used to login in subsequent visits to the Virtual Library. Write your password down somewhere in case you forget it. . .
