DynaBabyl is a particular DynaSite document type, originally developed to support Discussion Forum-type hyperdocuments. The DynaBabyl name comes from the ".babyl" file name suffix used by ZMAIL, Symbolic's fine email tool.
The DynaBabyl susbstrate tries to extend discussion forums into a set of tools for making and managing web-based information spaces. Anyone can create a new DynaBabyl Document, specialized to their needs. Go ahead Try it!
In addition to serving as a discussion forum, DynaBabyl documents allow for more user-specified linking (within or across dynasites documents as well as to any web address).
About DynaBabyl Documents
Examples can be reached through the grey strip at the top of this page.
Explanation of the various icons used in DynaBabyl documents can be found here.
There are two ways to view a DynaBabyl document:
Top Level - a collapsable outline. Blue wedges open and close the outline structure, while twist arrows open and close the contents of the outline entries.Entry Level - viewing the entry's contents. In this view you can operate on the entry - you can attach new annotations, or edit (create, change) links from this entry to others.
The Link Clipboard let's you create links among DynaBabyl Documents and to the Web. Here's how it works:
- put links onto the clipboard by clicking on the "grab links" icon.
- view the contents of the link clipboard by selecting the Link Clipboard link at the top of each DynaBabyl page.
- attach links from the clipboard to any entry by clicking on the edit links icon for a entry. This will bring up a link editing page from which you can attach the link.
LInk Hint: You can create links to any web page. In the link editor, drag a link from a web page into the URL box. Then type in the text for your link (the way it will appear) and hit the update clipboard button. Now you can attach the link to any entry in the DynaBabyl document.
